A survey of 33 Muslim families living in a small region in the state of New Jersey, in the United States of America, helped give a better understanding on the knowledge of the community regarding fostering, availability of financial aid and support from the government in enrolling in the foster child program. The aim of the survey was to collect community awareness and willingness to participate when it comes to fostering children in need of a safe environment and helping them become confident and independent individuals and it gave the option to work together with mosques and Muslim organizations to help create a safe environment for the child. The results of the survey show that the community was hesitant to bring up children in their homes due to the fear of not having the confidence in fostering children or not having enough religious knowledge about the difference between the temporary adoption or fostering versus permanent option or adoption. The concerns that create this fear can be eased by spreading awareness of the government training program and gaining support from other fostering families. The need to ease the fear and concerns through Friday sermons and in religious lectures by scholars. The importance of Muslim families to foster Muslim children is mainly to avoid them being adopted by families of a different religion. Success stories of Muslim children brought up my families of other religions bring a negative image to the way Muslims are perceived, causing them to be considered irresponsible, care less and selfish and shying away from an important responsibility.
