Each and everyone needs education. The first command of the last and final revelation of Almighty Allah was about reading, which means about education. There are many Ahaadeeth from the last and final Messenger, Prophet Muhammadh (S.AW), which highlight the importance of education. The Noble Quran and Ahaadeeth are the primary sources from which we deduce everything, and these two sources include everything that is beneficial for mankind. Without proper education, man cannot succeed in this life and the Hereafter. Therefore, the education that is offered to children from early childhood to higher levels must include useful knowledge for this life and, most importantly, the Hereafter. Islam encourages Muslims to acquire beneficial knowledge. Useful and beneficial knowledge will be achieved when it is based on Islamic teachings, that is, the Quran and Sunnah. Since Maldives has been a Muslim nation for the last 869 years, the reader can assume that throughout the last nine centuries, Islamic knowledge was taught based on the resources available at that particular time. Otherwise, there would have been hindrance in practicing Islam throughout this long journey, especially since Maldives is a small nation with a very low population compared to surrounding non-Muslim countries. During these long periods, there were attacks from outsiders such as the Portuguese, who tried to convert Maldives into a Christian-dominated country. They captured Maldives, and there were incidents where they poured wine/alcohol into the mouths of local people. With the help of Almighty Allah, some local heroes defeated them, even with fewer weapons and limited military techniques, against one of the strongest powers of that time. Today, we do not see such threats. However, one of the major threats is through education. There are many challenges faced daily due to the Western-dominated curriculum. A secularized curriculum does not focus on the Hereafter; rather, it focuses on materialism. An Islamized curriculum is a balanced curriculum which encourages acquiring knowledge that benefits both in this world and the Hereafter. To remain a purely Muslim country, it is important to have an Islamized curriculum instead of a secularized curriculum. In this research paper, Islamized education and Western education are compared and analyzed, particularly in the Maldives. The negative influence of Western education is widespread, and therefore it has to be minimized or eliminated by revising the curriculum and introducing Islamized education. For this research, literature was drawn from Maldives and some other countries. There are good research studies conducted by various qualified men and women from the Maldives; however, these studies did not emphasize Islamized education. On the other hand, researchers from some Muslim countries (such as Indonesia, Malaysia, and Pakistan) have already conducted research on Islamized education. Islamized education is not a new concept, and it was taught as early as 1936. Today, after nearly 100 years, there is still much work to be done to raise awareness of this concept. The negative impact of secularization and Orientalism is also discussed.Islamic Education vs Western Education: An Analysis of the Educational System in Maldives as a Case StudyThesis
