Item Academic efficacy and self-esteem as predictors of academic achievement among school going adolescents in Itesiwaju Local Government Area of Oyo State, Nigeria(Journal of Education and Practice, 2014) Muraina, K. O.; OB JosephThe purpose of this study was to investigate academic efficacy and self-esteem as predictors of academic achievement among school-going adolescents in Itesiwaju Local Government Area of Oyo State, Nigeria. A descriptive research design was used in the study. A total of three hundred (300) respondents were selected from Itesiwaju Local Government Area of Oyo State, Nigeria. The respondents were measured using relevant standardized scales, including the academic efficacy scale, self-esteem scale, and student achievement scale, all of which demonstrated strong reliability with a coefficient of .89. The data obtained were analyzed using the Pearson Product Moment Correlation (PPMC) statistical analysis of the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS). Two research hypotheses were formulated and tested in the study. The results revealed a significant relationship between academic efficacy and students' academic achievement (r = .781; p < 0.05). Additionally, there was a significant relationship between self-esteem and students' academic achievement (r = .781; p < 0.05). Based on these findings, it is recommended that parents take an active role in teaching and monitoring their children to improve their self-esteem and academic efficacy. Furthermore, school-going adolescents should be trained on strategies to enhance their self-esteem and academic efficacy, as these factors play a crucial role in boosting academic achievement. Strengthening these areas will contribute to reducing poor academic performance among students in society.Item An Experimental Investigation of Counselling Reality Therapy in Reducing Mathematics Anxiety of in-School Adolescents in Oyo State, Nigeria(International Journal of Educational Researchers, 2018) Muraina, K. Two (2) research hypotheses were formulated and tested at 0.05 level of significance. The result showed that there was significant difference in the innovative behaviour of secondary school teachers exposed to scamper creativity technique and those in the control group and there was significant difference in the innovative behaviour of secondary school teachers with high workplace happiness and those with low workplace happiness. In view of these findings, the study recommended that educational stakeholders should intensify their effort to organize conferences on the implications of scamper creativity technique as effective interventions towards enhancing innovative behaviour of teachers and that educational stakeholders should not only focus on the teachers’ teaching methods alone but also their innovative behaviour of teachers.Item Assessment of ICT skills among upper basic islamic studies teachers in Kwara State(Journal of Mathematical Sciences & Computational Mathematics, 2022) Muraina, K. O.; OL Olabisi; PB OlabisiItem Education inclusiveness among children with learning disabilities in Nigeria: Implications for counseling(Multidisciplinary Humane Perspectives on Education, 2024) Muraina, K. O.Education is seen as the cornerstone of every development forming the basis for literacy, skill acquisition and technological advancement, as well as the ability to harness the natural resources of the state. Participants in the World Conference on Education for All pointed out that education is a fundamental right of all people of all ages throughout the world. Learning disabilities occur when the learning process is hampered due to problems within the central nervous system which results in an inconsistency between the individual's intelligence quotient and academic achievement. Education for All programmes emanating from UNICEF, UNESCO and the World Bank have had some positive results for non-disabled children. School enrolment and literacy rates have risen in almost all countries to date; however, the same cannot be said for children with disabilities. Despite the numerous meetings, declarations and encouraging developments that have followed over the years, this progress has certainly not been matched. The development of education inclusiveness can be viewed in three stages: segregation, integration and education inclusiveness. Successful inclusion is less to do with the individual factor such as amount of support for the child; rather, it is the interaction of certain key factors that brings about the likelihood of a more successful inclusion outcome for the child. ChildrenItem Effect of cognitive behavioural intervention on aggression and violence of pupils with problem behaviours in primary school in Abuja(Journal Plus Education, 2024) Solomon, A. D.; Muraina, K. O.This study intervened in the problem behaviors of aggression and violence noticed in Nigerian primary schools in Abuja FCT with the use of Cognitive Behavioral Intervention (CBI). The study employed quasi-experimental research design. The population of the study consists of all primary school pupils in Abuja FCT Nigeria. Two purposes, research questions and hypotheses guided this study. The sample size consists of 44 pupils, drawn from six primary schools purposively sampled from 40 schools in FCT. Aggression and Violence Questionnaire (AVQ) were the instrument used for data collection. Data were analyzed using means and analysis of covariance (ANCOVA). Findings indicate that Cognitive Behavioral Intervention (CBI) significantly affects aggression and violence positively leading to a change of behaviors. It is recommended that Cognitive Behavioral Intervention (CBI) should be employed in all primary schools in Nigeria and in the world as intervention and corrective mechanism to problem behaviors in the classroom to enhance teaching and learning in schools.Item EFFECT OF COGNITIVE BEHAVIOURAL INTERVENTION ON AGGRESSION AND VIOLENCE OF PUPILS WITH PROBLEM BEHAVIOURS IN PRIMARY SCHOOL IN ABUJA(The Millennium University Journal, 2022) OD Solomon; Muraina, K. Participants were randomly assigned to treatments and control. The instruments used were: Student Acquisition of Science Process Skills scale (r=0.87) and Teachers Instructional guides on Project and Inquiry strategies. Two hypotheses formulated and tested at 0.05 level of significance. The data collected were analysis using analysis of covariance, the treatment had significant main effect on students’ science process skills on some selected abstract concepts in Biology (F(1, 107) =28.001; p<0.05, partial η2 = 0.344 ) . The female Students showed greater improvements in mean gains of science process skills scores by 10.17 and male students by 9.88. Based on the findings, it is recommended that the biology teachers should employ Project and Inquiry strategies as commonly used strategies in teaching, as it enhances students’ acquisition of science process skills in abstract concepts in biology.Item Effect of two instructional strategies on students achievement at selected abstract concepts: A case study on biology learning in Kwara State, Nigeria(Journal of Pedagogy and Education Science, 2024) Adewumi, G. Project strategy (PS) treatment group 1 has the highest adjusted mean achievement scores (x ?= 23.21) than those in the Inquiry Strategy (IS) treatment group11 (x ?= 17.81) and the students in the Conventional Strategy (CS) control group have the lowest adjusted mean achievement scores (x ?= 17.20). This order is represented as PS> IS> CS. The male students showed greater improvements in mean gain of achievement scores by 21.94 and female students by 17.13. Based on the findings Project and Inquiry strategies should be adopted for the improvement of students' achievement in abstract concepts in biology.Item Effectiveness of motivational enhancement therapy in enhancing mathematics learning gains among school-going adolescents in Oyo State, Nigeria(The Pacific Journal of Science and Technology, 2016) DA Oluwole; Muraina, K. However, this research examined the influence of quality ECEC centres on the social interaction of pre-primary school pupils in Kwara State. This study examines evidence on the influence of the quality of the ECE Centre on the Social interaction of pre-primary school pupils in Kwara State. The quantitative approach was adopted for the study while data was collected through a Questionnaire on the Quality of the ECE Centre and Observation rating scales on social interaction. Data collected were analyzed through descriptive statistics of frequency count and percentage scores. The results revealed that quality ECE Centre positively influenced social interaction between pre-primary school pupils and the overall development of children. At the same time, the study recommends that schools provide excess hands-on materials and allocate more play time and well enough space for play activities to foster children’s social interaction through quality ECE Centre, especially in Kwara State.
