Abstract
This research seeks to explore the relationship between Muslims and non- Muslims in the contemporary times, taking the Gambia as a case study on Muslims and Christians relation. The goal of this research is to clarify the concept of peaceful co-existence and religious tolerance among Muslims and Christians through an accurate understanding of the requirements of Allah,-the creator of all heavenly creeds- through al Qur’an and the Sunnah. The study demonstrates just how religious co-existence is the means of communication between societies, cultural interchange and joining together of nations for the virtuous of human Beings. Additionally, the study discovers the historical and geographical status of the Gambia most importantly the study attempt at answer why Muslims – Christian relationship in the Gambia, which is never had any conflict throughout the history. One of the significant parts of the research is to highlight the interrelationship between these two religious, living side by side in spite of different faith, to provide an excellent example co-existence and tolerance. In this findings we come to know that most of Christian’s leaders and their followers teaches peace, peaceful co-existence and tolerance all the time to respect humanity. In the side of Muslim leaders, they also teaches and train their followers about what the prophet (peace be upon him) saying, the best of you is he who love for someone that he love for himself, that preaches help most of Muslim to have love for all the humanity either been a Muslim or not. In the year 2016 U.S government make a research that in the population of 2.0 million living in the Gambia out of which 95% are Muslims, 4.2 are Christians and 1% of remaining population are Baha’is and Hindus who are mainly south Asian immigrant and business peoples all this are living in Gambia in peace and harmony. They come to conclusion that Muslim leaders and Christians leaders play an important roles, in terms of maintaining the peaceful co-existence and tolerance between Muslims and non- Muslims in the country. The research will take on the useful descriptive method to accomplish the target.
