This paper aimed to explore the evidence on the management of insomnia from medical and Islamic perspectives. It is a secondary study based on online research. Using a computerised literature search of specific databases, 57 studies fulfilled the inclusion/exclusion criteria defined for medical management of insomnia in the past five years. Websites that provide Quranic verses and ahadith in English were used in search of the relevant Quranic verses and ahadith. Specific databases were also explored for articles in the past ten years from an Islamic perspective. Five Quranic verses, 83 ahadith, and eight scholarly articles represented the Islamic perspective. The results show there are similarities in the management of insomnia from the medical and Islamic perspectives that allow for the integration of some of the medical and Islamic approaches for a more effective insomnia management. The results also show how Islamic interventions can be applied or augmented onto the medical interventions that have been proven effective and have strong-based evidence. Furthermore, this paper provides suggestions and future directions that Muslim clinicians and researchers can take in expanding this integration of medical and Islamic management of insomnia.
