Causes Of Moral Decadence Among Muslim Youths In Kaduna Metropolis, Nigeria

Abstract

This study assesses the causes of moral decadence among Muslim youth in Kaduna metropolis in order to proffer solution to the problem. This study adopted a post hoc descriptive survey design. This survey design is preferred because the researcher has no control over the conditions the subjects experienced. The population for this study will constitute inhabitants of Kaduna metropolis, Kaduna State, Nigeria and according to Metro Area Population, the population of Kaduna is estimated to be 1,580,000 as at the time of this study. Therefore, the study used Krejcie and Morgan (1970) to draw a sample size of three hundred and eighty-four (384). The study revealed that the incidence of cults, exam cheating, drug abuse, gambling, adultery, adultery, homosexuality, lesbianism, prostitution, bestiality, rape and sexual harassment in the study area is very high. high. The study also showed that the moral degradation in the study area is due to bad birth/poverty, environment/peer influence, modern technological devices/social media, poor governance and unemployment. Based on the findings it is therefore recommended among other that children should receive intensive moral and religious guidance starting in their early years. In order to instill the proper moral values in our children and youth, parents, teachers at all educational levels, the government, and the larger society should all play constructive roles. Also, Muslim scholars need to preach against all immoral and unethical behaviour with greater vigour. This can be accomplished by conducting numerous Da'wah activities in both urban and rural areas.
