Mental Agility Pemimpin Di Era BANI (Brittle, Anxious, Nonlinear, Incomprehensible) : Tinjauan Psikologi Islam

Abstract

The BANI (Brittle, Anxious, Non-Linear, Incomprehensible) era is characterized by the phenomenon of many individuals experiencing anxiety due to ongoing uncertainty and fragile and ambiguous systems that exceed human ability to explain logically, making the impacts difficult to predict. This makes it difficult for leaders to make appropriate decisions and take appropriate actions, necessitating a leader with mental agility to deal with the situation. Supporting factors such as cognitive and emotional flexibility, which are key dimensions of mental agility, require effective stress management, enabling a leader to maintain emotional balance while remaining flexible in the face of pressure. Spiritual and religious beliefs provide a strong foundation for a leader to be resilient and remain optimistic, think positively, and actively seek solutions. By relying on Allah Subhanahu wa Ta'ala for every event, they remain calm amidst uncertainty, adapt easily, think flexibly, and find solutions. The purpose of this research is to provide an overview of the spiritual and religious functions (tawhid) and the influence of a leader’s talent in building mental agility in the BANI era, so that they are not only competent and intellectually intelligent (cognitive agility) and emotionally (mental resilience) but also be able to lead with their heart according to human nature who have full awareness as the caliph and servant of Allah. The qualitative phenomenological method was used in this research to examine the components that influence a leader's mental agility in dealing with the various consequences of the BANI era. Primary data was collected through in-depth interviews and behavioral event interviews to explore the deep meaning of subjective experiences from the participants, then the interview results were analyzed with interpretive analysis through interview data reduction to find the main ideas of the primary data and then given meaning. The results of the study illustrate how the influence of religious spirituality and leadership talent of the participants is quite significant even though not all aspects of religious spirituality and leadership talent were found, as some dimensions of mental agility have not been fulfilled in the subjects.
