Democracy As A Cause Of Disunity Among Muslim In Northern Nigeria: An Analytical Study

Abstract

This thesis is aimed to study the effect of democracy as a cause of disunity among Muslim in Northern Nigeria. This research is an analytical study in it nature and it has been conducted using qualitative research methods. It has been observed that in Nigeria, democracy has been in existence for a long period of time, and yet the people are still backward among other regions in Nigeria politically. The Northern region is filled with a lot of problems and in a great tom-oil, these problems include; lack of security, banditry, youth unemployment, kidnapping, poverty, terrorism and lack of proper education for the masses in the region. The general public in the Northern Nigeria is said to have been heavily inflicted negatively with pain and hardship. This work examines and analyzes the problems and the findings show that there is a lack of political and religious awareness among the people and this is why they are always subdued by the political and ruling class, likewise the lack of religious awareness among Muslims in the region. Therefore, the work recommends the government to solve the social, economic and political problems of the region. Also, the Muslim clerics should educate the masses on the notion of democracy and it due rights and duties, to educate the masses on religious tolerance, on their social and economic needs. As a result, there will be a happy, prosperous and peaceful coexistence among the Muslims in the region.
