Misconceptions Of Islamic Economics: An Analysis Of Western Critiques

Abstract

This is an attempt to identify misconceptions about Islamic economics as found in works by western critics. The writer has searched the library, web, books and journal articles for works that are written by westerners on the topic of Islamic Economics. Misconceptions were identified and their refutations and clarifications were provided from The Qur’an, Sunnah, Muslim scholars and academics. Those that could not be identified in available literature were offered by the researcher. By extension, a refutation on misconceptions about Islam was necessary because it is illogical to focus on a branch of a matter while leaving its root and foundation. The question of how much influence western authors have on Islamic learning institutions was answered by determining how many of the authors under study had teaching positions or a teaching history in Islamic learning institutions. Their Curriculum Vitaes were also assessed for their educational background in Islamic Sciences.
