Challenges Against Muslim Union In Contemporary Nigeria

Abstract

This study investigated the challenges confronting Muslim unions in contemporary Nigeria using a longitudinal research survey. The population of the study comprised all Muslim unions in Nigeria with a particular interest in Northern Nigeria from where sample size of 360 respondents was drawn. And for data collection a questionnaire was developed. Frequency and percentage tables were used to answer the four (4) research questions raised. The findings from the study revealed among others that disunity occur among Muslims in contemporary Nigeria. Likewise, tribalism and ignorant of the right teachings of Islam were the major causes of disunity among Muslims in Nigeria. Moreover, practicing Islam based on Qur’an and Sunnāh only and eschewing of tribalism among Muslims in Nigeria were the key possible ways of uniting Muslims in Nigeria. The study therefore recommends among others that for disunity among contemporary Muslims in Nigeria to become a thing of past, all Muslims should go backto the basis of Islam i.e. practicing Islam like during the time of the Prophet (S W A) and his companions (R.A.). Also, Muslims in Nigeria should eschew tribalism and any other conduct that call for disunity
