Abstract
Like many myths about Islam, the Quran, the Prophet (ﷺ) and the Muslims, the issue of a Muslim wife has also become a topic of great misunderstanding and distortion. It is mainly due to religious illiteracy, lack of understanding of Islamic teachings, harboring a malicious intent into misrepresenting Islam, ill-treatment of husbands towards their wives and, Muslims cultural practices, etc. to name a few. One important feature of this myth is to caricature Islam as misogynistic and oppressive to wives, thus leading to doubts, dissatisfaction with the status quo and , anger, and resentment in families. Wrong notions about of Islam leads many Muslim wives to denigrate Islamic teachings and borrow Western ideas to deal with their marital issues. This paper, using the qualitative analytical approach discusses the special place Muslim wives have in Islam, and seeks to address some of the many misconceptions and false allegations regarding them, and dispel stereotypes and myths and replace them with facts and information. The paper discovered that these misconceptions stigmatize the religion even though, compared to other world religions, its treatment of wives is arguably preferable and more enlightened. The paper recommends Muslim spouses to acquire Islamic rulings concerning marital issues in order to perform their roles and responsibilities and to and further to eradicate the myths related to these issues.
