Abstract
In the name of Allah the most beneficent and most merciful. This research sheds light on the impact of technological advancements in promoting Islam by way of online journals, social media and many more. There have been countless advancements in each of these mediums that it is almost impossible to enumerate them individually. But this report isolates each of these mediums and elaborates on their significant effects and impacts they have left on the society both positive and negative. Positively speaking, students of knowledge can virtually study under scholars of high stature from all over the earth in just a click on their smartphones. Almost every obligatory salah can be viewed over the internet via live streaming. As narrated by Anas ibn malik (May Allah be pleased with him) that Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said “Seeking knowledge is an obligation upon every Muslim” This becomes a motivation for many people to visit the house of Allah the most high. One of the most beneficial advancements is that people can very easily opt for Islamic studies online from prestigious institutions like International Open University, thereby gaining authentic Islamic knowledge to stay on the straight path, bi idhnillah. On the down side now that technology has become available to every commoner, it is difficult to stop anyone from saying anything about anybody. Since the incorporation of social media into the hand held devices of the society there have been numerous ideologies that have been propagated without verifying their authenticities, thereby causing fitnah in the society. Man in general has been warned about the dangers of gossip and today it has become a part of man’s everyday activity. These issues cannot be resolved unless Muslims understand the dangers of using technology destructively such as wasting time, surfing unnecessarily and spreading false speech and heresy. As Allah says in the Qur’an “And do not spy or backbite each other. Would one of you like to eat the flesh of his brother when dead? You would detest it. And fear Allah” We have also looked into the various Islamic fields where we as Muslims have proven ourselves to be good human beings by using the technological advancements in the most productive and constructive manners by spreading this salafi da’wah. A brief look into the psychological mindset of the society and the ways to improve them have been discussed upon. This will enable us to groom ourselves as a society and also to work together for the development of the ummah. Whilst tackling the obstacles and avoiding the insinuations of shaytaan to make us use these technologies in a bad way. May Allah guide us all throughout this entire process.
