Abstract

This study investigates the effectiveness of cloze reading exercises in enhancing context-based grammar mastery among secondary school students. Employing a quasi-experimental pre-post one-group design, the study involved 22 third-year secondary school students. A grammar instruction program utilizing cloze reading exercises was implemented. Prior to the intervention, participants' grammar mastery was assessed through a pre-test. The intervention included explicit exposure to various cloze reading exercises. Post-intervention, students were assessed with a post-test to determine the impact of the intervention. Results indicated that the mean scores on the post-test significantly exceeded those on the pre-test. Thus, cloze reading exercises were effective in enhancing context-based grammar mastery for secondary school students. The study underscores the importance of integrating cloze reading exercises into the secondary school curriculum to foster better grammar acquisition.
