Abstract

Long-term marriages in the modern era confront complex dynamics of emotional challenges and crises of commitment. In the context of Indonesian Muslim society, marital stability necessitates more than just operational-behavioral resilience; it requires transcendental spiritual depth. This study aims to construct a conceptual model of the resilience process in long-term Muslim marriages by integrating Western psychological concepts (Grit) with Islamic psychological principles (Sabr). Utilizing the Constructivist Grounded Theory (CGT) methodology, this study inductively captures the intricate web of meaning and the psychological processes of the participants. Data were collected through in-depth interviews with three Muslim married couples, with marriage durations ranging from 12 to 30 years, who have successfully navigated various crucial marital crises. Data analysis was conducted through rigorous coding stages, proceeding from initial coding to the formation of axial categories. This study introduces the Theory of TeocentricConscious Commitment as the primary conceptual proposition, operationalized through the SMAGS Model (Sabr-Based Marital Grit Cycle). This model illustrates how elements of Grit are tangibly manifested as the operationalization of Sabr values, moving cyclically and interactively within a four-pillar theoretical architecture : (I) Deconstruction of the Affective Myth & Conscious Love, (II) Psychospiritual Transmutation and Sabr Regulation, (III) Relational Eschatology & The Attainment of Sakinah, and (IV) Civilizational Action & Generational Sustainability. This integration serves as a primary driving force in maintaining marital stability and commitment, whether navigating chronic stagnation or acute trauma. This research contributes theoretically to the development of Islamic psychology and practically to marriage counselors in formulating interventions based on character-spiritual integration. Future research is recommended to develop quantitative instruments to test the validity of the SMAGS Model on larger samples, and to conduct longitudinal studies investigating the impact of parental marital resilience on children's psychological development
